Sulfuric Acid 98% The Mother of Chemical Industries
What is Sulfuric Acid?
Sulfuric acid is a chemical with extremely high reactivity. This substance is strongly hygroscopic, with a powerful tendency to absorb moisture from the air and other materials. Its reaction with water is highly exothermic and can cause dangerous splashing of the acid.
Its high corrosivity, strong oxidizing properties, and its ability to react with a wide range of substances (metals, bases, organic compounds) have made sulfuric acid the most essential raw material in thousands of chemical and industrial processes.
Sulfuric Acid Production at Mihan Zaj Company
The sulfuric acid unit at Mihan Zaj Company, commissioned in 2001, is considered one of the fundamental pillars of production within the complex. The sulfuric acid we produce is not only supplied as a final product to various industries but is also used as a key raw material in our internal process for producing potassium sulfate (via the Mannheim process).
This control over the internal supply chain enables us to produce a product with uniform quality in compliance with the highest national and environmental standards.
Key Applications of Sulfuric Acid
There is hardly an industry that does not use sulfuric acid, either directly or indirectly. Its most important applications include:
- Production of Chemical Fertilizers (Primary Application):
- It is widely used in the production of phosphate fertilizers (such as superphosphates) and ammonium sulfate.
- Chemical Industries:
- As a raw material in the production of hundreds of other substances, including hydrochloric acid, aluminum sulfate, and various metal sulfates.
- Mining and Metallurgy Industries:
- In the leaching process for extracting metals such as copper, uranium, and vanadium from their ores.
- Battery Production:
- As the primary electrolyte in lead-acid batteries (car batteries).
- Oil Refining:
- For removing impurities from gasoline and other petroleum products.
- Water and Wastewater Treatment:
- For pH adjustment and the regeneration of ion-exchange resins.
- Detergent, Textile, and Leather Tanning Industries.
Advantages of Mihan Zaj's Sulfuric Acid
-
High Purity: Production of 98% grade sulfuric acid.
-
Guaranteed Quality: Continuous quality control in compliance with national standards.
-
Stable Supply: Reliable production capacity to support customers' production lines.
-
Longstanding Experience: Over two decades of experience in the production and safe management of acid.
Packaging and Storage
Mihan Zaj's sulfuric acid is primarily supplied in bulk (via dedicated acid tankers). Delivery in 220-liter drums and 1000-liter acid-resistant tanks (IBCs) is also available.
Storage Recommendations: Sulfuric acid must be stored in special tanks made of resistant materials (such as stainless steel or high-density polyethylene). The storage area must be completely dry, cool, have strong ventilation, and be kept separate from flammable materials, organic substances, bases (alkalis), and water sources.
Safety Precautions (MSDS)
Serious Warning: Sulfuric acid is an extremely hazardous and highly corrosive substance.
- Contact with Skin and Eyes: Causes very deep and severe chemical burns and can lead to blindness.
- Inhalation: Its vapors are toxic and severely damage the respiratory system and lungs.
- Reaction with Water: Never add water to acid (always add acid slowly to water). The reaction generates intense heat and causes dangerous splashing.
- Safety Requirements: The use of the most comprehensive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory, including a full-face shield, anti-splash safety goggles, acid-proof clothing, boots, and nitrile or PVC gloves.
